Mayor Davenport and the McMinnville Police Department worked together to create the Public Safety Unit in 2003. It's mission is to enhance the effectiveness of the police patrol division by serving as a community oriented program of the department, by performing duties not requiring POST certification and relieving officers of those duties.

What can you do?
Citizens can support law enforcement with this innovative program and at the same time enhance the quality of life in the community by acting as an extension of the department while making a positive contribution. PSU members will perform non-enforcement duties such as assisting stranded motorists, funeral escorts, welfare checks, safety checks, traffic direction, etc.

Why volunteer?
Simple. We need you. For the past several years our community has been growing and the demands on law enforcement have increased considerably. As a result, the already limited resources of local law enforcement have been stretched further than ever, at a time when every available officer is needed on the street. The McMinnville Police Department cannot succeed without the active participation of community residents.
