Chief Sewell began his law enforcement career in 1972. He has a Master's
degree in Public Administration and a Bachelor's degree in Criminal
Justice from Columbus State University. He received his Associates
degree from Georgia Military College and a certificate as an Associate
Public Manager from the Georgia State Merit System. Chief Sewell is a
graduate of the 178th session of the FBI National Academy and a graduate
of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and Columbus State
University's Command College.
He retired from law enforcement in December of 2005, but came out of
retirement in September of 2006 to join the McMinnville Police
Department. He is certified as a police officer in Tennessee and Georgia
and is an active member of the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of
Police, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the F.B.I.
National Academy Associates. Chief Sewell has worked as an Adjunct
Professor in the Criminal Justice Program at Clayton State University
and Motlow State Community College. He currently serves as chairman of
the (TACP) Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police Professional
Standards Committee. The TACP Board of Directors and Award Committee
also awarded Chief Sewell as the 2009 Middle Tennessee Director's Choice
Award, also referred to as the Chief of the Year Award.
